On July 17-18, 2023, Mr. Danucha Pichayanan<\/strong>, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), along with Mr. Wanchat Suwankitti<\/strong>, Deputy Secretary-General of NESDC, and Thai officials attended the Economic and Development Review Committee (EDRC) meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to review the Economic Survey of Thailand 2023<\/strong> at OECD headquarters in Paris, France. The meeting was honored by Mr. Tana Weskosith<\/strong>, Ambassador of Thailand to France, who delivered opening remarks. <\/p>\n\n

The EDRC meeting is a crucial forum where OECD member country representatives provide feedback on the draft Economic Survey report. This is a key activity of the ‘Maintaining a Sound Economic Policy through the Second Economic Survey’ project under Phase 2 of the Country Programme (CP) cooperation between the Royal Thai Government and the OECD. The main objective is to analyze the country’s macroeconomic overview and review various economic, social, and environmental challenges to develop important policy recommendations for driving the country’s future development.<\/p>\n\n

During this occasion, the Secretary-General of NESDC Thai executives and officials held discussions with the Committee and OECD representatives, exchanging information and views on Thailand’s economic overview and trends, various challenges, and economic policy implementation to enhance Thailand’s economic competitiveness. Key policy issues included macroeconomic policy implementation, covering both monetary and fiscal policies, economic restructuring to increase productivity, and promoting inclusive and fair economics, particularly regarding informal worker protection, workforce skill development to meet market demands, and improving the social safety net. Additionally, the report presented guidelines for achieving Thailand’s net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target set for 2022, with key recommendations including preparing mechanisms to promote carbon pricing alongside environmental law and regulation improvements, supporting renewable energy development, promoting green innovation, and transitioning to a circular economy. The OECD report team and NESDC collaborated to further improve the draft report’s completeness, representing another important cooperation that helps Thailand access OECD knowledge and best practices, leading to sustainable economic and social development. <\/p>\n\n
