On June 25, 2024, Mr. Danucha Pichayanan, Secretary-General of NESDC, received Mr. Scott Morris, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank for East Asia and Southeast Asia and the Pacific, along with his delegation, to discuss cooperation for development between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Thailand
On this occasion, both parties exchanged views on cooperation in climate change, which has broad impacts on both the economy and society, particularly regarding air pollution and heat stress issues, which are currently priorities for ADB. ADB is ready to provide academic cooperation to Thailand under the collaboration between NESDC and ADB’s Thailand Green Incubator project in utilizing artificial intelligence and technology, as well as developing measures to mitigate the impacts of these problems in both the short and long term, including promoting the development of concepts for utilizing agricultural waste to produce renewable energy to reduce waste and pollution that would arise from waste management
In this regard, the Secretary-General emphasized promoting international cooperation, particularly in managing transboundary air pollution, suggesting the utilization of institutional mechanisms under the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program (GMS) framework, where NESDC serves as the national secretariat, to promote awareness and develop joint solutions leading to a subregion with air quality management and emphasis on clean air, which will help promote economic and social benefits
Furthermore, both parties agreed on the importance of mutual cooperation to mobilize resources, expertise, and technology to drive Thailand toward resilience, sustainability, environmental friendliness, and inclusive growth
