December 11, 2025 Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presided over the opening ceremony of the academic workshop on budgeting OECD Asian Senior Budget Officials Meeting, 19th edition, organized by the Bureau of the Budget in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The meeting had approximately 100 participants, with meeting co-chairs Mr. Richard Windeyer, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury of the Commonwealth of Australia, and Mr. Kornnin Kanchanommai, Deputy Director of the Bureau of the Budget, serving as co-chairs. Additionally, distinguished individuals and agencies, as well as international organizations participated, including Mr. Ekniti Nititantraprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ms. Supamas Israpakdee, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, executives from the Bureau of the Budget, senior executives from OECD member countries and other nations, as well as financial and fiscal experts from various countries.

The main theme of this year’s meeting is “Fiscal Sustainability, Digital Transformation, and Public Sector Capacity Building“, which directly aligns with the government’s policies that emphasize strengthening the fiscal policy framework to maintain stability while effectively supporting economic growth. Currently, the Thai government is advancing the improvement of public financial management systems through digital platforms and considering the responsible use of AI technology to enhance efficiency and transparency in the government system, alongside promoting fiscal literacy among citizens and encouraging public participation to foster a culture of sustainability in Thai society.

The Prime Minister spoke about Thailand’s path to OECD membership, stating that Thailand has reached an important milestone. On December 8, 2025, Thailand submitted its Initial Memorandum (IM) to Mr. Frantisek Ruzicka, Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to begin the technical review process in the next phase, while reaffirming the Thai government’s commitment to the OECD membership process.

This meeting takes place at a critical time as governments worldwide are facing economic uncertainty, geopolitical challenges, technological changes, and other issues. This meeting therefore presents an important opportunity to exchange views on how fiscal systems should adapt to future challenges.
