Thailand Expands Cooperation with OECD to Advance the Country toward International Standards

Mr. Supattanapong Punmeechaow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, and Mr. Mathias Cormann, OECD Secretary-General, jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the renewal of the Country Programme (CP) between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) at OECD Headquarters in Paris, French Republic

On March 17, 2023, Mr. Supattanapong Punmeechaow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, together with Mr. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Finance, Mr. Danucha Pichayanan, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council, Mr. Thana Wesagosit, Ambassador to Paris, along with Thai executives and officials, participated in the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Thai Government and OECD for the implementation of CP Phase 2, which is a continued cooperation building upon the success of CP Phase 1 that was implemented during 2018-2021

The implementation of CP Phase 2 is a 3-year cooperation (2023-2025) aimed at continuously promoting Thailand’s access to OECD knowledge and best practices. The cooperation covers 4 main areas: (1) Governance (2) Business Environment and Competitiveness (3) Social Inclusion and Human Capital Development and (4) Green Recovery, comprising 20 sub-projects with 19 relevant Thai agencies involved. This will enhance capabilities and develop competitiveness, support inclusive and sustainable economic growth, as well as promote good governance principles and transparency, and improve domestic regulatory reforms, bringing Thailand closer to OECD membership

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, along with the Thai delegation, held discussions with the OECD Secretary-General and executives and the delegation of Ambassadors to OECD regarding future cooperation approaches between the Thai Government and OECD, which align with Thailand’s national development agenda in various areas such as civil service reform, legal and regulatory improvements, trade competition policy development, education, science, technology, innovation, energy, and infrastructure enhancement. Such cooperation will result in the National Strategy and various plans being implemented and achieving concrete and sustainable goals
