3. Halal Products and Services

Halal Products and
Services
(Halal Products & Services)

Background and Principles

Halal Products & Services is one of the three leading sectors under the IMT-GT framework. It focuses on cooperation to increase the comprehensive certification of halal economic activities and develop the potential of personnel in halal businesses to support growth and exports, thereby promoting access to halal products. This is implemented by the Working Group on Halal Products and Services (WGHAPAS). For Thailand, the Ministry of Industry serves as the primary coordinating agency to strengthen IMT-GT halal products and services in the global halal market. By promoting certification standards and cross-border cooperation, this working group supports a robust halal ecosystem with skilled professionals, strong small and medium-sized enterprises, and broader consumer reach.

The Working Group on Halal Products and Services aims to

  1. Elevate the halal standards of IMT-GT member countries to achieve global recognition.
  2. Increase the number of technical experts and academics in the halal industry.
  3. Encourage small and medium-sized halal enterprises to focus primarily on exports.
  4. Increase the number of halal producers and service providers.
  5. Enhance consumer access to halal products and services.

Recent Progress

The three countries under the IMT-GT framework are currently accelerating operations in agriculture and agro-industry, prioritizing cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding on the Rubber City and Rubber Industry Project in the IMT-GT subregion. This initiative aims to stimulate investment and enhance the efficiency of rubber products, thereby facilitating business operations and distributing income to rubber farmers. This is being pursued alongside the promotion of food security and the development of young farmers through the adoption of innovation and modern agricultural skills to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the agricultural sector within the IMT-GT subregion.
