Background and Principles

Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry (WGAA) is one of the 3 sectors playing a leading role in the IMT-GT program, with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives serving as Thailand’s main coordinating agency. Its objectives are to promote sustainable, inclusive, and innovative agriculture and to enhance the competitiveness, innovation, and advancement of the industrial sector.

Strategic Issues

Promote sustainable and knowledge-based agriculture

Develop important agricultural industries such as food, rubber, palm oil, herbs, energy, palm oil biomass, and high-nutrition fruits

Integrate green economy, blue economy, and circular economy concepts into the IMT-GT agricultural supply chain

Key Projects under the IB 2022-2026 Plan

  • Seminar project on “Improving Quality and Productivity of Palm Oil in the IMT-GT Region” regarding the reduction of contaminants in palm oil (completed)
  • Regional Training for Agriculture Young Farmers in the Framework of IMT-GT project (ongoing)
  • Smart Farm Alternative for New Generation Farmers project (ongoing)
  • Project on Economic Herb Production and Propagation Management Throughout Value Chain (ongoing)
  • Development of Surath Red Goat Breed project (ongoing)
  • Genetic Diversity of Surath Red Goat project (ongoing)
  • Development of Sriwichai Beef Cattle Industry project (ongoing)

Recent Progress

All three countries are accelerating their operations to comply with the Memorandum of Understanding on the Rubber City Project and Rubber Industry Cooperation in the IMT-GT Subregion to stimulate investment and enhance the development efficiency of rubber products. This will facilitate business operations and generate income distribution to rubber farmers. Additionally, emphasis is placed on food security and the development of young farmers in the IMT-GT subregion through innovation and capacity building in modern agricultural skills.
