University Network
(UNIVERSITY NETWORK: UNINET)
Background and Principles

The IMT-GT University Network (UNINET) connects higher education institutions across the subregion. Established in 1996 with eight founding universities, UNINET leveraged the WGHRDEC during the 2017–2021 Implementation Blueprint (IB) period to expand its influence and network. The signing of the UNINET Charter in 2017 formalized its status as a subregional organization and established an official cooperation agenda. Recognizing its growing role, expanding network, and deep local expertise, the 27th IMT-GT Ministerial Meeting held on August 6, 2021, approved UNINET as an independent research body for IMT-GT. Currently, 32 universities from across the IMT-GT subregion are members of the UNINET system.
