Background and Principles

Transport Connectivity prioritizes infrastructure development in terms of physical connectivity to achieve seamless transportation and facilitation, reducing inequality while ensuring sustainability, safety, and a secure telecommunications network that links internationally. Furthermore, it emphasizes regulatory connectivity to ensure that physical infrastructure can be utilized to its full potential. The Ministry of Transport serves as Thailand’s primary coordinating agency, supported by the Working Group on Transport Connectivity (WGTC), which focuses on enhancing connectivity and mobility to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth throughout the IMT-GT. The Ministry of Transport is the main Thai coordinating body at the working group level.
The Transport Linkages Working Group aims to facilitate
- Seamless cross-border transport
- Increased mobility of people
- air connectivity with adequate services and increased capacity.
- Expansion of land connectivity
- Improved service potential of infrastructure

Recent Progress
Implementation is driven through various projects with tangible results, particularly the Second Kolok River Bridge (Sungai Kolok–Rantau Panjang), which is a high-priority Flagship Project. Furthermore, there was a consensus to organize meetings for airline and airport operators as side events to the Working Group meetings. Support will also be provided for the green freight transport projects of the IMT-GT University Network (UNINET). Key projects for Thailand include the construction of the road alignment linking Sadao CIQ and Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS, the construction of the Second Kolok River Bridge, and the Hat Yai–Padang Besar double-track railway construction, all of which are currently proceeding according to plan.
