GMS Task Force on Innovation
(GMS Task Force on Innovation)
Lead Agency: National Innovation Agency
Background and Principles
The GMS Task Force on Innovation was established under the Greater Mekong Subregion Innovation Strategy for Development 2030 (ISD 2030), which was endorsed at the 8th GMS Summit. Its objective is to promote subregional development that is integrated, prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive by creating a regional innovation ecosystem that supports cross-border cooperation, technological development, and addresses the region’s structural challenges. The ISD 2030 serves as a key mechanism to support the implementation of the GMS 2030 Strategic Framework and integrates innovation into the program’s key sectors.
The operations of the GMS Task Force on Innovation aim to promote digital transformation and the green economy, enhancing physical, digital, and knowledge connectivity alongside human capital development, technology transfer, and support for startups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) under the principle of inclusivity. It serves to set directions, coordinate cooperation, and monitor regional innovation progress. Furthermore, digital operations will be aligned with the GMS Digitalization Action Plan 2025-2027 to support the concrete driving of innovation at the subregional level.
Recent Progress
The GMS Task Force on Innovation has translated the ISD 2030 strategy into concrete action by developing and implementing the GMS Task Force on Innovation Action Plan 2025-2027, while monitoring and building upon the outcomes of the GMS Innovation Week held in Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Vietnam. These operations focus on strengthening the innovation ecosystem, exchanging knowledge, and promoting cooperation between the public sector, private sector, and academic institutions to support the long-term economic and social development of the subregion.
